Sogo

Hello everyone,

I'm a semi-newbie here, been following along with the thread for a little while, but this is my first post.

I'd started my own 'learn to trade' type of game before finding this thread, so this is cool to find other people doing the same thing. I started paper trading, like most people, but I found myself getting too risky since 'it didn't really matter anyway'. Same way that playing online poker for play money doesn't work, at least in my head.

I did some research and activated a SogoInvest account (sogoinvest.com). They have a 90 day promotion that all trades are $1 commission, then only $3 per trade after that, with no monthly subscription. Problem is, its pretty limited, only Limit and Market orders, no stop limit orders, options, etc. Which for me at this point was fine.. i just wanted cheap, and I'd micromanage the heck out of it.

Now they have SogoElite, which has all of the stop limit orders, etc, and they have an option of a flat comission structure of 0.004 cents per share, with a $1 minimum commission, with no monthly subscription.

So far, they've been really good on the customer service, always replying to my emails and being really helpful.. I'm just curious to see if anyone else has used them, or has any advice about 'discount' brokers vs others like Fidelity (which I have for my retirement account, but its $20 a trade).

Thanks for all of the advice, I hope to be able to start posting my results once my Elite account is activated.

Glimmer of hope

well at the breakeven point at the moment decided to hold one more day after this morning scan. The stock still looks like it is ready to run but the question is in which direction. Will hold it at least till close to closing today or sell tomorrow early don't want to hold it over the weekend.

What difference 20 minutes makes

Please Post This Statement and These Rules with Updates! Thanks.
**********************************************
THE RULES- YES YOU CAN STILL JOIN
1. If you are just joining, your start date is the current date of your post, and you start at ZERO gain.
2. When posting your update, you MUST include in the post, or in separate post right after it, the stock symbol, entry/exit dates, and entry/exit prices, so ppl can check it. Otherwise your update will be deleted. Would be nice to hear the war story too.
3. You MUST make and report a ROUNDTRIP trade AT LEAST every two weeks. Otherwise, you aren't really in the Experiment and will be dropped and have to start over. Serious illness is an exception, but you must post this fact BEFORE the two weeks runs out. If you're posting elsewhere on the board then you're assumed to be well enough to do an Experiment trade.

One thing to note

3 of the best plays I have had during this expirement have been achieved by being able to be sitting in front of my computer during the trading day. I am able to do this at the moment because I am a contract worker waiting for another contract. I do not think I would be able to play the market with this much success during my working periods. Be that as it may I still believe with proper money management and well positioned stop losses or trailing stops in place should keep me out of trouble when I go back to work in May.

The expirement has been a very good learning tool for stock selection and for the last 2 plays has afforded me the luxury of picking stocks and working on adjusting stoplosses and trailing stops to achieve gains worth taking but yet afford some wiggle room for the stock to move.

The picking of stoplosses and or trailing stops is crucial if you cannot watch the market all the time during the day, and expect to be profitable in this game called the stock exchange.

Who would have thought

I am sure like most to the traders on this site you get tons of snail mail for one system or another. Or if not a system a newsletter that would double your money in as little as 6 mos. in the stock market. I get about 15 to 20 of such items a month since I started trading stocks. The thing that really upsets me is that no matter what I seem to do I just can't get them to stop sending this junk mail. Today as usual I got my fair share of trading advice from various sources around the country. The three biggest areas it seems to me are Maryland, Florida and Colorado according to the distribution of the mail I recieve without asking for it.

Today I recieved mail from two one was VSA a cousin to Omnitrader which I did purchase at least 7 years ago and it did not perform well for me and I think was quite the investment scam at the time. The second piece of mail was one I had not heard of before and frankly was quite surprised by because I have never heard of the newsletter nor the person who was pitching the stock.

The news letter was Myers Secret Stock and in it was only one stock listed and that was an immediate buy for an otbb stock SWRI. Now the mail arrives at 1 pm where I live so for the heck of it decided to look it up. It had risen 25% since the opening bell. Checked it again at the end of the day and it closed up 33.34% . I have done this on occasion several times over the last three months and not one of the pitched stocks had ever increased in price. So who would have thought that this stock would have moved as much as it did after the intial check at 1 pm.

Has anyone ever heard of this news letter and if so have you followed it to any extent or was this the one shot in a thousand that they got one right.
I do not subscribe to any newsletters but I have to admit it did peak my intrest in that he got it right.

WFII came up on a new scan that I worked on over the weekend and decided to give this one a whirl. At the moment have made good plays on several different scans. I pick a scan then run it against all of the scans I have come up with and the stock that appears on the most scans is the stock that is put into play. The scans I have come up with are looking for strictly short term plays and are not really suited for the long haul.

Newbie

This is a cool site. I really admire you guys and what you are attempting. However, I don't even have that kind of money to start with. I am a High School Student that is just beginning to learn about the Market. I got lucky with a company called exegenics. I only had 44 shares valued at 30 cents a piece. But, the company became a shell was bought by 3 other groups , my 30 cen tstocks are now at 4.95 last I looked. Ineed some advice. I only have about 60 dollars from my grass mowing jobs. I would like to invest it in shell stock again. Please give me advice what Broker to use and what shell you would invest in. Thankyou. all advice is accepted. my email is
carl.benjamin58@gmail.com I will check back here often. Thanks Again.

Good luck with the fix Orange but it seems that the site had a few problems of it's own. I did not see the original post because for a few days could not get pass the opening screen. Everytime I tried to go to a different page got the page not found script.

Anyway hope you are doing well in the market haven't seen to much to play lately but dilligently working on finding a new stock.

With Just $500 bucks

I'd trade the stock until it reached $40,000 or so then I'd leverage it and then put it down toward a $400,000 house that I could cash flow. Then, I'd hold that house for over 30 years and it would pay itself off. It would be a livelong investment I'd never have to worry about losing on the next market downturn.
