Good Luck
TNT, if in fact your post was directed at me, I'm not attempting to pick apart the strategies at all. However, if this is "Trading 101" and the goal is to get a million dollars over 52 weeks or less, then one should understand that taxes and commission fees need to be included in your results. Those are two big chunks that are a reality when trying to achieve a goal. It's not my style to pick apart a post. I'm sure Orange may have figured all of that, but there are many more amateur investors that maybe haven't. In order to encourage "good trading habits and risk management" as you said, I think people need to realize that if they haven't. In addition, if your talking risk management, though I like the goal, I think the risk is way too high.

Let's not get hung up on the details. Just start & adjust your plan as you go.
You can aim at 10.5% to take care of the fee.
As for the taxes, believe me, when you make the $1Million in a year & pay $200K for taxes, that's a nice problem to have. Then the following year, you would be able to start with $800K instead of $500!!!!!! How much do you think you can grow that? Let's say you will fail to hit the 10% a week & you end up with a lowsy few million dollars. Not bad at all!!!!!!!!!!
Just get startted. You've got the tools & the people who are willing to put their time to help & guide.

Time for me to start shopping again.

Start Balance: $1k
Third trade: $1554 TDCP @.385 on 12/28/2006 and sold @ .67 on 1/3/2007 (74%)
New Balance: $2654

Slowly making those FGFC losses back

I flipped TDCP also for this theory. In at .37 on Wed. Out at .70 today. I do like I said with banking extra and rolling 10% back in.

Paper trade. Read and study technical analysis in your time while you acquire the funds. You will learn tons by reading on this forum and then looking at the charts that other people are talking about. Welcome aboard and take your time. The market will still be here when you have the money (and never put anything into this that you can't afford to watch disappear).

thanks for the advice! might just do that! i invested €380 last summer and its now worth €940 so i might take my profit and run. and consider putting $500 into this little exercise but i would need some advice as it could be quite hard for me due to lack of experience. do places like scottrade and lowtrade allow you to trade on european markets? i would like to trade on the irish and london market if possible

My watch list(of stocks that $500 is going to do any good on) was also not presenting much in the way of opportunities today. Two did retrace a bit today,Im hoping that tomorrow they will present a better entry point.

Good Luck

Not at all overlycautious, Orange. Relax and be confident in yourself. I had to work most of the day today and was pleasantly surprised as to how well my watchlist for this experiment did. I'm in and out of my first trade in this with a profit and already went after my second with loss limits set if they happen (right now I'm up 5%). I set aside enough from my gains on the first to cover any loss and still maintain my goal for gains on the second. So my second trade is automatically a success. This is how I look at it. I don't think that most people enter into a stock trying to get 10%. Everyone wants more. The whole idea of this is to discipline yourself to take what the market gives you and as you well know, getting 10% is possibe. If it's a loser, everyone needs to have limits that are tolerable and get out. Pennies are not investments for the most part. I don't expect to become a millionaire off this. I expect myself to get even better at being disciplined and picking stocks that are ready to move and taking profits when they are there. This experiment is about following entry and exit points without emotion in my opinion. It is a very valuable lesson that whether I make $20,000 or lose $1,000 I will learn from. You know me well enough to know that I don't do this primarily for the 10 bagger. Small gains will reap everyone big rewards. You're all about this. Give yourself the credit that you deserve and enjoy the green.
