Total account value after 20 years = $500*(1+10%)^240
=$4,297,485,720,534

That's it.

You are right Orange, it is all $5 a trade rather or not it is pink sheets or Big board stocks. Since Lowtrades changed their computer system over in June I have not had any problems.

Sorry, though this is good in theory, it's not very practical or realistic. First and foremost, continuously finding stocks that are going to produce on average 10-20 percent per week is going to be quite challenging. Secondly, you're most likely going to be making many trades. Depending on who you go with you could be looking at some $700-$1,000 in commission fees right there. In addition, for every trade you make, you're going to be paying taxes at the tax rate you are at. If you're in the 33% tax bracket, every trade you make will be taxed at 33% because it is a short term capital gain. Thus, your initial rise from $500 to $600 (if you're lucky enough to get 20%) will actually be $567 which is a $67 increase and not a $100 increase.

It is my understanding that this is an excercise in trading discipline, not a mathematics test. The object appears to be the establishment of good trading habits and risk management. I see no value in attempting to pick apart the premise of what should be a Trading 101 level practice primer.

Good Luck

The way I do it is this:

I use the spreadsheet to do a projection using 3%, 4% and 5% monthly return rate, and using a priciple of $4000(that's the amount for my Roth IRA deposit).

After 20 years, I would get somewhere between 4.8million(corresponding to 3%), and
486million(corresponding to 5%).

My point is: to get rich is not too difficult, the difficult part is, one needs to get that small monthly return rate CONSTANTLY. To do that, one needs to be patient and not being greedy.

Currently I am doing very well using this stratedy, i am about two years ahead of time even using 5%.

I think HMGP will make my account even greener in the near future.

Hey Orange,
I do apologize for my spelling. Glad to see that you knew what I really meant. I certainly have nothing but respect for you. You bet I'm in!!!
I hope you ignore any discouraging comments while you're trying to help others.
I absolutely believe that 10% is very achieveable given that the investor is willing to put in the time & the effort to scan LOTS of stocks DAILY. The stocks with the +10% potential are there. They only need the investor who's willing to spend the time to look for them & learn/identify the right pattern for their style. Too many investors are too busy re-inventing the wheel, rather than learning to use that wheel that's already out there!
I remember Greencat's advice: "1] Know your candles. 2] know your support and resistance. 3]Know your moving averages and MACD MACD is a moving ave. 4]Stop dreaming."
The consistent 10% is more realistic that the 1,000,000,000% lottery stocks that lots of investors dream of & end up losing the $$ in search for it.
For those who are in this experiment I have a suggestion: Don't exclude the Canadian Stocks; there are lots of winners there. It improves your chances. Most of the time the Canadian stock market is open when the US market isn't & vice versa.
Finally: Best of luck for you Orange & all those who are in this experiment with you.

I like this idea. I definitely need a new system because mine sucks. Unless you're goal is to end up with less than you started with.

Your experiment could be the control group. Maybe the board could pick a stock (maybe through suggestions) weekly (or whatever) and post the results. Just hypothetical picks but if someone who is a novice wanted to invest they could.

Anyway, good luck to everyone.

Gold,
I would think spammers such as yourself would pay to use the site. You have a total of 19 post and they were all posted from 10:19 pm and 1:26 a.m.
All but 2 were on one stock.
You wasted those 2 coming down on Orange who I consider a friend. Orange is far too nice so I will tell you.......... find another place to pump and spam your stocks or send advertising money to the cats.

I like and use this predifined scan. I pay for stockcharts for its many other features, but I still use this free scan list almost daily.

Gold, you are definitely barking up the wrong tree if you think that you're going to walk in and start bashing Orange. Not to mention Greencat's CD. Perhaps you should start your own forum and put the amount of efforts into it that the Cats do and see if you shouldn't receive any kind of compensation to pay for maintaining the board and the contests that they sponsor. You are entitled to your own opinion, but itsn't recommended that you walk in here bad-mouthing mods and administrators. I certainly won't lower myself to an argument, so enough said.

hey, i was thinking about adding something to this. so the goal is 10% per week, but my concern is that if you go neg, or don't hit 10 then the numbers go way down. but what if you put anythign over 10% in a week to the side and then it would be insurance in case you lose on a couple of trades. for example, you could have double fgfc last week. so if this was your 1000 dollar trade, you have hoped to make 100, so reinvest the 1100, and side line the 900 until later. just an idea.

and for the record, if anyoen thinks they can do this, i will give you 500 and let you keep half the profit after 1 year!

but i think the point is disciplined trading, and i'm looking forward to see how it pans out.
