I don't think that I will post plays until afterwards for many of the reasons listed above. Not in here anyway. I try to post in threads about stocks that I am watching and even some that I get in on. For experiment's sake, I think that it's better not trying to skew anything.

i tend to agree...i think we are all pretty active in the other threads that you can usually guess where someone is playing -- for example, i don't think it would be difficult for anyone to figure out where i'm losing my shirt right now

in the $500, i only made one play so far and lost 6%. on the $1k if i sold the loser i'm in right now, i'd still be up well over 100% so far so i'm doing fine -- we're all bound to make bad plays at some point...afterall, i need some losses to write-off all my gains at the end of the year LOL...just have to learn from my mistakes

Anyway the last time I checked this was a stock forum. If you could not post your picks the forum would be pretty useless...lol. Man I am a smart alleck.
i feel ya (LOL) fatbacker, xeller, and partyman and others. here are the issues below-- and of course you're welcome to come on into the Experiment and post your picks...
1. posting messes with the science. it can pump the pps, or depress the pps if the mm's notice the action and decide to mess with it.
2. this is to show people that they don't need to pump to win. they don't need to get noticed in a forum to win. they just need the skills of t/a or quant.

i actually worry more abt mm's messing with my play. but come on in and prove me wrong LOL

Understood.

I just figured seeing how and why people picked (you more experienced people)would be educational...if some decide to post them after closing their positions that would be welcomed learning....if not...I fully understand.

Sold them today at $1.3 for $1,280.46 after commissions, for a profit of $211. Looking at the action the last half of the day, I wish I held them but I hit my target of 20%. Bid for them hit up to the 1.80 level today, which in hindsight looks like I sold too soon, but a nice little profit was made, so I'm happy and will take my toys to a new sandbox. No bad profits, yada yada

I got into OIH yesterday because I felt that during early morning trading a floor had been put in and I thought OIH would be nearning 130 today, with 2 more days before options expiration. With OPEC news and low oil price already priced in, I felt the chart looked good for a 3-5% bounce in OIH over the next few days due to the fact that I felt OIH had been beaten down too far, making the 130 call options attractive at the $1 level.

OIH Jan 2007 130.0000 call (OIHAF.X)

PLEASE NOTE: Options are a high risk venture, and a small market turn in the wrong direction can make an option worthless. I do not advocate the high risk activity of buying stock options 3 days before options expiration day unless you are very risk tolerant and do not mind losing out on your whole investment. I was ready to take up to a 50% loss and sell if the market moved against me. So the risk was high relative to the reward I took off the table. A few days before expiration, the risk tolerant come in to try to make a fast gain or get hit with a fast loss and move on. Again, very risky and very very dangerous for the novice.

Sold my position in DKAM, wasn't going anywhere fast. Sale was a wash, no gain and no loss really after commissions.

For this experiment, currently all cash at the following level:

trader: BruceCampbell start date: 1/3/07
Start balance: $1000, current balance: $1,560
up 56%.
Bruce, i see the "options basics" on the tagline of your posts. Is this how you learned options? I think this is the next thing i would like to add to my arsenal. Just wondering how your learning curve went....stocks->options->something else? Seems like you would need TA with stocks before you could trade options.

Just seems silly to limit oneself to stocks only.

Playing by the rules

Due to having to wait for the three day settlement rule missed a really good play today could have gotten into EEEI at 1.50 shortly after the open and shortly there after could have gotten out at 1.68. This would have been a very good play but playing by the rules is the most important thing isn't it?

Still kicking myself in the butt told my brother in-law looked like a very good play he got in and got out with 1000 shares all in a matter of less than an hour. Oh well next time instead of reading so many threads will pay closer attention during the first half hour HAHAHAHAHA. Gotta laugh better than crying.

being able to recognize a possible play is part of the game too.
