relax- you can start smaller

had a couple comments abt ppl not having $500 to start. relax- i don't think anybody will object if you come in smaller. the idea is steady gains. i started in this racket in march 2005 with $212. i'm doing okay now, but i lost a lot of time and money trying for the "big score". i wish somebody had grabbed me by the eyeballs back then and said, "Look, knothead-- you ain't going to hit the big score. the mm's are just gonna steal your money little by little. do this 10% thing with your piddly $200 and in a year you'll have $25,825.98 and in a year-and-a-half you'll have $878,185.56 -- wise up!!" but nobody did- not exactly. so now i'm grabbing YOU by the eyeballs and telling you the same thing.

if commissions worry you- get a cheaper broker. check out zecco (zero commish, not sure if any minimum to open) or lowtrades ($5, no minimum to open). then come on in here and do BETTER. i see you out there jumping into trades and getting stuck for weeks at a time. i did the same thing. you deserve BETTER. so come and get it!

and another thing, while i'm on this rant! right now i see 9 members, 130 guests. what's THAT about?? lemme tell you "guests" something abt trading psychology. it's EMOTIONAL. you need emotional support. you don't get tech or emotional support anyplace else like you can here. and the only way to get that support is to be able to post AND be recognized. and the only way to do that is to sign up as a member. so stop drifting around and put down some roots. that's how life works. that's how money gets made.

okay. i feel better now.

This play was a combination of fundamentals and T/A. A market over-reaction made me investigate an ETF that had been overly beaten down in recent weeks. This stock had the best risk/reward options spead of the major players in the ETF and the ugly duckling would be brought up with his better looking swan family when the bounce occurred (or perceived bottom, short term it traded the same) and it did today (see ticker OIH for the ETF). This play probably has significant upside left, but I hit my target, got my profit, and am moving on.

LOL!!...thanks for the support and the kick in ass Orange!

I have the money..thats not a prob...I could probably work with 1k actually...but right now it is tied up in a couple of DOGS...I am just waiting for them to go green and I am going to bail...I'm sure I'll at least hit a break even point next week then I'm OUT!

Right now my prob is lack of experience and constantly worrying about picking losers...I am only down about 30 bucks since I started trading and except for the 2 dogs I got into the past few days I am up on everything else which is MORE than making up for exiting on a couple for a small loss and I'm holding steady in the green and slowly gaining ground to a point where I may be able to start taking some profit here and there and still hold some positions...commissions are not a real prob right now either as I signed up with TDA and have about 3 weeks of free trading left at my disposal (was 45 days)...but I also have to be careful about being flagged as a daytrader...I can make 4 round trips in any rolling 5 day period so I need to keep that in mind...

With all the thinking I've done on this I think the only way (at this point) for me to make this woprk would be to shadow someone and asking for that just isn't right...LOL!

I appreciate the feedback and I really am glad I found this site...you peeps are GREAT!..hopefully it will help me mold myself into a smart trader and make some big bucks down the road!

I am not posting just my good picks. I started a lowtrade account put 1000 in it. I am trying to use t/a scans to find my entry point. As for my sell once I am in.... I set my sell for 10% than cost. I am thinking if I lose 5% on a trade I will exit.(don't know yet but hopfully I won't have to). This is my goal 10% a week I know I won't get it every week. I think $1000 compounded a week at 10% for a year is around $142,000 . Thanks for this challenge Orange. Good luck to all

xeller- glad this is helping. so far proclivity has offered to backstop for 1 week and so have i. as far as i know, we're both still available. so "...would be to shadow someone and asking for that just isn't right...LOL!..." is just not true. all you gotta do is pm one of us. my personal opinion: proc is a better trader. up to you.

Commissions on trading are a cost of doing business, just like taxes.
While there is little we can do about taxes,we at least can shop around for a better commission rate. When you do shop for a better commission, you should factor in several things besides the actual cost of each trade.

In our business of trading,we each learn quickly that value has little to do with price. You should search for the appropriate value for your trading style.
Things that should be considered when comparing the value/price ratio of a potential service are:
Newsfeed
Execution
L1 or L2
Streamer
Scanner
Personal Rep.
Charting
Research interface
Ease of use
Customizable screen
Supported styles
Options screen
Money Market sweep
Trade calculator

Will that cheap 4.99 commission be as great a value to an active trader without L2 and a decent screener? Or is it worth an extra $2 a trade to have everything at your fingertips?

Good Luck

O.K. Orange...thanks for the offer and advice..I really appreciate it!

I would worry about being a big pain in the ass and looking stupid but I'll give it some thought.

I lease my own seat and only pay for clearing beyond the lease. However, I just changed clearing houses and use TerraNova for clearing and ancillary service. I checked them out before the change and really like their own retail side as well. Their RealTik platform is one of the best, IMO, in the retail market. Its a bit pricier than many but not so much when you factor in all of the the bells and whistles that are a part of the platform.
