I like to express the importance of having a sound money management technique in place. It matters to have a decent system but if proper money management is not put in place, you can still lose money even with the best system around. Knowing how much to risk per trade and when to risk per trade are important key elements in becoming successful in this market. Focusing on only win ratios and pip counts is not necessarily going to make you money. Most systems you see out there that claim 90%+ winning ratios are simply strategies that have poor risk/reward ratios and simply cut profits short and allow losses to run. They take many small profitable trades but the losing trades are usually very big. A few bad trades in a row is not uncommon to blow an entire account or put an account in a significant draw down. Many people fail to realize that systems with only 30%-50% winning ratios can indeed be extremely profitable by letting the winners run and cutting the losses short. Money and risk management is one of the most important factors in becoming successful. I currently operate a managed forex account business where I provide the opportunity to trade for clients who are unwilling or unable to handle this type of trading environment on their own. I use strict money and risk management principles and I will tell you that it's the only reason why I will always continue to survive and make money for both my clients and myself.
