New Dollar coins
Ive been looking forward to using the heck out of these. But today I got the following e-mail.
Dear Brothers in Christ, Today I (not me) picked up at Bank of America several of the new $1.00 coins with the picture of George Washington on it. To my shock and dismay the words, "In God We Trust", are not on this coin! A quick search of the other coin denominations in my collection confirmed that every one contained these faithful words. The new George Washington $1.00 coin is the first money ever issued by the USA in modern history without the words "In God We Trust". By omitting these words, our politically correct, secularist leaders made a conscientious decision that either; 1) God does not exist, or 2) that God exists, but can no longer be trusted. I am personally offended and fed up with the denigration of God and Christianity in my country. I am certain George Washington would never have agreed to his picture on the coin if it any way diminished faith in God. What can we do to show our displeasure? First of all, let's boycott the coin. Do not ask for it at banks. If it is given to you in change ask for dollar bills instead and tell the person why. Write your Senators stating your displeasure. Finally, if you agree, pass this e-mail on to others. Collectively, we must send a strong message to those secularists who are trying to remove God from our culture. If we do this, some 300 million $1.00 coins will back up and rot in the supply chain! To God be the glory! Stinking polititions make me sick. |

I have $125 in these already...it's on the edge.
BTW, if you get lucky and find one that didn't get the edge lettering at all...they are going on eBay for about $50 each. Not a bad return on a $1 investment. mtn

Here ya go for those that don't have the coin in hand... this from TruthorFiction.com. The only bad thing is that the edges tend to wear first. Eventually, some of these may not have the phase.
New Presidential $1 U.S. Coin Does Not Have "In God We Trust" On It-Fiction! Summary of the eRumor: A forwarded email that says that a new coin has come out this month [February, 2007] that does not have the phrase "In God we Trust" on it. The email says the government is monitoring to see whether it gains public acceptance and asks who was responsible for the change. The writer speculates that it is part of an effort to leave God out. The Truth: The coin is real. It is a new $1 George Washington coin. Contrary to the eRumor, the coin does include "IN GOD WE TRUST" but it's not on the front or the back of the coin. It is engraved on the edge along with "E PLURIBUS UNUM." Front of $1 Washington Coin Back of $1 Washington Coin |

I guess there was some truth to that e-mail after all.
U.S. Mint Goof Creates 'Godless Dollars' By JOANN LOVIGLIO AP PHILADELPHIA (March 7) - An unknown number of new George Washington dollar coins were mistakenly struck without their edge inscriptions, including "In God We Trust," and made it past inspectors and into circulation, the U.S. Mint said Wednesday. Minting Mistake "The first one sold for $600 before everyone knew how common they actually were," coin expert Ron Guth said. "They're going for around $40 to $60 on eBay now, and they'll probably settle in the $50 range." Talk About It: Post Thoughts The properly struck dollar coins, bearing the likeness of George Washington, are inscribed along the edge with "In God We Trust," "E Pluribus Unum" and the year and mint mark. They went into circulation Feb. 15. The mint struck 300 million of the coins, which are golden in color and slightly larger and thicker than a quarter. About half were made in Philadelphia and the rest in Denver. So far the mint has only received reports of error coins coming from Philadelphia, mint spokeswoman Becky Bailey said. Bailey said it was unknown how many coins didn't have the inscriptions. Ron Guth, president of Professional Coin Grading Service, one of the world's largest coin authentication companies, said he believes that at least 50,000 error coins were put in circulation. Coins in the News "The first one sold for $600 before everyone knew how common they actually were," he said. "They're going for around $40 to $60 on eBay now, and they'll probably settle in the $50 range." Production of the presidential dollar entails a "new, complex, high-volume manufacturing system" that the mint will adjust to eliminate any future defects, the mint said in a statement. "We take this matter seriously. We also consider quality control a high priority. The agency is looking into the matter to determine a possible cause in the manufacturing process," the statement said. The coin's design has already spurred e-mail conspiracy theories claiming that the religious motto was purposely omitted from the Washington dollars. That rumor may have started because the edge lettering cannot be seen in head-on photographs of the coins. The Washington dollars are the first in a series of presidential coins slated to run until 2016. After Washington, the presidents to be honored on dollar coins this year will be John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Bailey said the striking of the Adams coin, expected to roll out in mid-May, will proceed as planned. "We are adjusting the manufacturing process to try to eliminate the problems," she said. |

Good read. The funny thing about the fact that to date they think all the coins with the smooth edges are from the P mint, since the mint mark is on the side it is missing. There are guys selling them on eBay saying they are from the Denver mint...with no way to dispute it. They are trying to get premium because of it...lol.
I got 100 more today to look through. Maybe I'll get lucky.
