Zorro has moved on

Zorro was an amazing cat and a good friend to me.

When Zorro first figured out how to climb up the lattice work to the beams on the roof, he'd climb up and meow loudly until one of us came out to see what the matter was. As soon as we did, though, he would just start purring. It took us a little while to figure out he was just saying, look at me!

This was a big accomplishment for a cat who'd lived most of his life with a metal rod in his hind leg from some misadventure in kittenhood.

Although Zorro wasn't really big on getting wet, he'd still occasionally jump into the kayak when I took it out, a sight that had the neighbors scratching their heads. When he was more vigorous and I kept a more regular schedule he would greet me in the parking lot, sometimes right at my car (!), and walk me home. When he developed diabetes, he not only took his twice daily shots without complaint, he would come when I called him.

When Zorro developed bowel cancer and stopped eating, we knew it was time to let him go. He passed peacefully, surrounded by people who loved him. He had a great life, and died with dignity. What more can one ask.

Sorry for your loss, putting pets down is a bummer, but I'm sure Zorro is in a better place. Sounded like a real cool cat!

Thanks, 3D. Yeah, I thought of him as a great little guy who just happened to be a cat. I even considered having him cloned, but to quote Kahil Gibran, "life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday."

And so it is. We'll miss him.
