Stickies from the store

Does anyone else think that allowing the purchase of stickies is a bad move? First off it allows self promotion which it appears has happened twice already. We have the "1-2-3" method and now MTM's picks. I have nothing against either of these members, but I surely don't want people to be able to promote their own picks or methods at the top of every page. The second thing that I don't like about it is that fairly soon, we will have an entire first page of stickies. I don't want to page through a bunch of stickies in order to read the real threads that are posted here. This is just my opinion and would like to get other's views on the subject.

I agree as well. Although, perhaps another option would be to add a new category/action where anyone with enough points could remove someone's sticky - with the same number of points it costs to buy one. But Ah's idea seems the easiest.

Perhaps the stickies should be reserved for 'established' threads. That is threads with over x? posts and with an reader base.

The too many stickies defeats the whole purpose of having stickies in the first place.

Better yet, just raise the point total to 2000 or something.

I think the best option to control the stickies is allow a maximum of 5 of them on the board at a time so when a new one gets bought then the oldest one gets unstickied and will migrate down the board, or put a time limit on the sticky, say 30 days and the sticky comes off?

I like the idea of a time limit for user generated stickies.

Perhaps the user can suggest that their post be sticked, but I think the admin should be the one who regulates it.

I concur with this. Didn't notice the sticky option in the store was so grossly underpriced. I've upped the price in the store to 2000. Moreover, I will have the option to unsticky a thread at my discretion.

I want to give reputable and established forum members the option of stickying a quality thread but the final oversight and decision of what should and shouldnt be stickied will rest with me and the mods

Thanks for the input guys.
