market-millionaires hosting service

Isnt very good... often times I get 'cannot connect to server'. At first I thought it was my internet connection but all other pages would load fine. This isn't the first time I have experienced this, usually at least once a week and mostly during market hours sometimes its impossible to read the forum for periods up to a half hour.

Anyone else experience this?

especially in the morning.

that is why sometime i want to tell people about a pick in the morning but i end up getting it to you guys at 11am or later.

and late at night too.

it will always be some server error. or some server maintainence or just wont load.

why?

Same thing happens to me. Doesn't always happen, but there are several times that I can't connect, or I make a post and I get an error when posting because the site goes down, then I lose my post. I have since learned that I must cut and paste my post to notepad before submitting it, that way in case it errors out I still have a copy to post later.

However, on another note, this is a free site, so what do you expect? Someone has to pay for this. And I'm sure it's relatively expensive to have a top notch hosting service when you don't generate revenue.

I guess the question is, does this site make money? How is the maintenance paid for?

The site is free to us.. I highly doubt it is free to ADMIN as the hosting service includes server side includes and free hosting just doesnt tend to offer that. The only way this could be 'Free' to admin is if he hosted it off of his own server which in that case he would still have to pay for his connection. And given the amount of traffic that this site gets I highly doubt that he runs this site off a personal server as his connection requirements (read as money paid for this connection) would probably outweigh his desire to have an online forum.

I use www.icdsoft.com for my hosting service. I don't get paid to pump them or anything but when I chose them 3 years ago I did so because of their outstanding record of uptime. At the time they had about 30 minutes of downtime for the year.

Hosting for them starts at about $65 for the basic package which includes PHP (which this forum uses) and a few other bells and whistles. The only thing about it is they are a bit stingy on traffic which for this site they'd probably have to upgrade one level.

Well, you guys are all partially right. We have been experiecing some recent issues with the hosting of the site. The reason is twofold -- one, we maitain a side business which is highly traffic and bandwidth intensive and is hosted on the same server as Market Millionaires. Anytime that business picks up, the server gets overloaded and experiences partial outages and timeouts. The second is that google is spidering and indexing Market Millionaires like crazy and that bogs the site down....we have over 15,000 pages to this site! We've taken several measures to secure the site and prevent any future outages by slowing down Google and by putting our other business on a different server. Hopefully this will ensure that we'll be up for ever and always into the future!

Thanks again for noticing guys. If you have any other problems or want us to add anything new to the site, just let me know

Unfortunately google doesnt take meta tages into consideration... otherwise this would be a great way to slow down the google bot:

Also, what type of side business do you run? I don't think segregating the forum and the business would be a good idea cuz this forum could probably be a great way to keep your business listed high on search engines and the likes.
