I am from Canada and I am looking to open account to start trading. I tried Scottrade but it seams only USA people are able to apply for account I am from Canada what should I do?

I do have Interactive brokers account. But IB does not accept RRSP account. Can someone advise a very low fee broker such as IB in Canada where you can open RRSP / RESP etc accounts as well. Most canadian brokers still charge exorbitantly high comission with other cut throat measures if you order data feed and account cancelation fees and all the nine yards to make you go bankrupt instead of making money

I have a TD account and it's been fantastic. I have nothing but praise for it. Incidentally, to answer someone's question, TD does do RRSPs. I believe that you can do an RESP with them too.

But, I would like to recommend Trade Freedom. I signed up for their trial account - they give Level 2 quotes! Yes, there's no signup fees and it's only $10 flat per trade. In fact its such a strong competitor that TD is buying out or already bought out TradeFreedom. You can even trade virtually using TradeFreedom. They set you up with $50K virtual money and you can buy/sell just as if you had real money. I think I lost a lot of my virtual money. That's b/c it's much easier to take high risks when it's not your real money.

I need to elaborate bit on my last post. When I signed up for TradeFreedom it was PRE-TD takeover... I don't know if they offer the same terms any longer. Maybe TD bought them out to bring their prices up to line with TD and get rid of really low discount trading fees. Or maybe they're keeping TradeFreedom new plans in tact and nothing's changed.

TD Waterhouse can do $9.99 flat trades too, but you need more than 30 transactions per quarter OR over $500K in assets invested in your account. I've also trade Scotia online ( not the US Scottrade that's $7 or something per trade ), but I prefer TD's interface among other things.

Well if you don't need RRSP account, I definitely recommend Interactive Brokers. You can subscribe to any market you want in the world, and their fees are very low. I pay as little as $2 per trade.
